Testing the progression of retinal disease and glaucoma can be quite challenging.
To ensure accuracy, it is prudent to perform a variety of tests on the patient.
That is why the Clearview Institute has invested in a wide range of leading retinal
and glaucoma diagnostic equipment to help us assess your condition and follow it
over time.
Visante™ OCT
Manufactured by Carl Zeiss, the Visante Optical Coherence Technology (OCT) allows
us to get a cross-section of your eye using a non-harmful, no-touch laser. A precise
glaucoma measurement tool, it determines the thickness of the cornea and gives us
an immediate picture of what is going on from the beginning of the cornea to the
beginning of the lens.
Cirrus™ High Definition OCT
Manufactured by Carl Zeiss, this non-invasive piece of equipment looks at the retina
at the back part of the eye as well as the optic nerve. It gives a baseline for
what the nerve is like down to the microns and helps us determine whether the nerve
has a problem. It can also reveal whether there is fluid or swelling beneath the
retina.
Heidelberg Retinal Tomography (HRT)
An excellent way to track changes in glaucoma patients, the HRT helps us determine
what stage of progression they are in. Its confocal laser scanning system provides
detailed three-dimensional images of the posterior segment of the eye, making it
effective for diagnosing conditions such as nerve fiber defects.
GDx™VCC
Manufactured by Carl Zeiss, this important tool is generally used for early detection
of glaucoma. But it may also be used for ongoing assessment. It utilizes a laser
polarmeter to detect changes in the optic nerve and lets doctors evaluate glaucomatous
changes over time and adjust the patient's management plan as needed.
Humphrey Field Analyzer®
Manufactured by Carl Zeiss, the Humphrey Field Analyzer is used for glaucoma management
and blindness prevention. It accurately determines the stage of disease, rate of
progression and a patient's risk of future vision loss by automatically summarizing
all available visual field test results on a single page and by calculating each
patient's rate of visual field deterioration.
Reichert Ocular Response Analyzer
Manufactured by Reichert Ophthalmic, the Reichert Ocular Response Analyzer provides
a new measurement of corneal tissue properties called Corneal Hysteresis (CH) that
is a result of viscous damping in the corneal tissues. This measurement helps us
screen out patients who would be at risk for complications from laser refractive
surgery as well as those who are more likely to develop glaucoma.
