-
If you have vision loss in one or both eyes as a result of the following conditions,
you may benefit from our low vision devices and services:
- Macular degeneration
- Glaucoma
- Diabetic retinopathy
- Retinitis pigmentosa (RP)
- Ocular albinism
- Rod/cone dystrophy
- Stargardt’s
- Nystagmus
- Ocular injury
- Can Low Vision treatment cure my vision loss?
-
Low Vision services and devices maximize your remaining vision, but it does not
cure the cause of your vision problem.
- How can Low Vision treatment help me?
-
Low Vision treatment is based on a thorough vision and lifestyle assessment before
deciding on the optimal corrective option. This results in the best possible vision
for you by maximizing your remaining vision.
- What is a Low Vision Examination?
-
Our Low Vision Examination usually takes between 1 and 1.5 hours. Our doctors will
compile a detailed case history of your vision loss, condition, your visual goals
and lifestyle needs. Your prescription and eye health will be evaluated before the
final assessment with Low Vision devices and glare controlling lenses.
- Is there any financial assistance available for Low Vision devices?
-
Yes, the Ontario Government’s Assistive Devices Program (ADP) provides financial
aid to OHIP-covered individuals who meet a specific vision requirement. Clearview
and Dr. Ana Juricic are registered as a vendor and authorizer of ADP. If eligible,
ADP covers up to 75% (to a maximum) of the approved Low Vision devices. You are
allowed three devices every five years if there is no change in your condition.
The Department of Veterans Affairs also helps cover the cost of many Low Vision
devices to an approved maximum. If you have less than 20/20 vision in your better
eye, you can qualify for disability tax credits and a CNIB card.
- Does Clearview work with the CNIB?
-
Yes, we work in conjunction with the CNIB, referring ophthalmologists, optometrists,
and other health care professionals. Dr. Kranemann and Dr. Juricic are able to prescribe
and provide head-borne devices such as mounted telescopes, binoculars, prismatic
glasses, and spectral transmission eyewear. The CNIB cannot prescribe and dispense
these head-borne devices without an optometrist, ophthalmologist, or optician.
- Do I need a referral for a Low Vision examination?
-
No, a referral is not necessary to book an appointment with a Clearview professional.
- How do I schedule a Low Vision appointment?
-
Please contact us at 416.445.8439 and let us know that you are interested in our
Low Vision treatment. We will send a questionnaire for you to complete and bring
to your appointment. If you are currently under the care of an ophthalmologist or
optometrist, please have your doctor send a summary of your eye health. Also, you
should bring any previous eyeglasses and Low Vision Devices (magnifiers and binoculars),
even those that you no longer use.
